Um mês depois, a taxa de sobrevivência dos participantes que receberam células estaminais ascendia a 91%, enquanto que a registada no grupo controlo foi apenas de 42%.
Para além disso, também se verificou que o tempo de recuperação foi mais rápido no grupo de doentes tratado com células estaminais, comparado com o grupo placebo.
